Time Out Errors Print

A time out error is when one of the servers that is establishing the connection to your mail server breaks the connection because it has not heard anything from you in a preset length of time. This can either be the Easyspace email server or your ISP.

The email servers have a time out period of 5 minutes.

ISPs can have periods shorter than this.

The usual cause of this is either/or a large amount of email (or very large email) and a poor connection.

If someone sends you a very large email it will take as long to get it as it would from a web site. The typical email attachment of a MPEG movie clip can be as big as 4 or 5 MB. Some ISPs have a time limit such that if you do not make any requests to load a web page they will time out the connection in a shorter period than it takes to down load the file.

Similarly, a very large amount of email will cause the same problem.

A way around this problem is to access the email account when the internet is faster such as late in the evening.

If there is a very slow connection to the internet it may block the connection altogether and the email server will time the connection out before the mail software gives up trying.
